Anita Jolles

Raised between two continents, Anita Jolles carries two very different landscapes within her.

The Austrian Alps, where mountains and forests surrounded her childhood with her grandmother, and Aruba, filled with tropical vegetation, Caribbean colours and bright light. Both continue to find their way into her paintings; not as literal landscapes, but as memories.

After graduating in Fine Arts in 1999, life took Anita in another direction. As a young mother eager to travel, she built a twenty-year career as a make-up artist, creating visual stories alongside large creative teams.

Over the past two years, she has found her way back to painting; this time with the courage to let the work lead her.

Anita paints from memory, collecting moments, colours and small details from the places she encounters. She knows where a painting begins, but never where it will take her.

Nature is her recurring language, one of healing, transformation and continuous change. Anita’s take on Autumn: It deepens the palette and enriches the textures, before winter quietly returns everything to its essence.

The Curator's Eye

What draws me to Anita's work is that her landscapes feel familiar without belonging to one particular place.

They remind us that we rarely remember a landscape exactly as it was. We remember a colour, a light, a feeling.
