MIRAY
Amsterdam-based multidisciplinary artist Miray explores the space between grief, longing and hope. Drawing from her cultural heritage and personal experiences, her layered compositions navigate identity, memory and belonging, transforming deeply personal emotions into universal stories.
In A Children's Burden, a child slowly sinks into the ground while carrying a lifeless baby, a representation of their own inner child. A part of the past that remains present, even as life moves forward.
A red thread, resembling an umbilical cord, connects the figures to their origins. To parents, childhood environments and the experiences that continue to shape us.
Yet Miray's message is not about placing blame on the source of our pain. It is about learning to transform that pain into love.
Her work asks a quiet but powerful question:
What do we choose to carry forward?
For Miray, life is a journey towards becoming the purest form of love within ourselves.
The Curator's Eye — By B
What draws me to Miray's work is her use of blue.
Against the emotional weight of A Children's Burden, the intensity of the blue introduces an unexpected sense of positivity and balance.
For me, it represents life beyond the past. A reminder that healing is not about forgetting who we once were, but recognising that we don't have to carry every version of ourselves into the future.
Perhaps the beauty of becoming lies not only in what we hold on to, but also in what we allow ourselves to release.
Some stories are better told by the artist herself.
